For a few years now, the keyboard designer Baionlenja has used a certain colorway in a number of the renders for his previous boards, most notably the Bias R2. With the continued popularity of Baion’s boards, including his most recent Gehrin group-buy, it is with little surprise that this once fake set has now finally come to fruition. This keyset was a collaborative work that had many people involved, including Manu, LoobedSwitches, Baionlenja, Stellaidoscope, and MikeyDigit.
GMK Nerve’s biopunk novelties and color palette matches up perfectly with Baion’s lineup of boards, with some of the novelties even having the Baion logo and name. The neon yellow and bright purple feel otherworldly together, as well as the blend of vaporwave aesthetics in the novelties. Like his boards, this Baion-heavy keycap set also seeps with the influences of futurism and biotech. Some enjoyers of science fiction may correlate the bright yellow to the neon goo one might see in a futuristic science lab, where the discovery of unknown creatures, like the one fossilized on the backweight of the Gehirn, lies just over the horizon.
For those looking for similar aesthetics but fear missing out on GMK Nerve, sets like KAM Superuser and GMK CYL Grand Prix might satiate your needs. However, there are still few sets out there as bright and neon as GMK Nerve. In general though, it has become a trend to push towards more unique design languages. The rise in popularity of custom keyboards has also made GMK WOB-like sets become a dime a dozen. Though of course this industry and its designers are always innovating, there definitely seems to be a change in direction that hobbyists and creatives alike are going in, and GMK Nerve sits at the cusp of it.
